The Power of Podcasts (and Why You Should Appear on Them)

I am massive fan and listener of podcasts.

Spending lots of time in the car or running is when I get my fix. It is a efficient way of being able to digest information while learning and growing.

Some favourite podcasts include:

Over the past 2 years I have had the opportunity to be interviewed on many podcasts.

At first this this was a rather scary prospect but after a while I really started to enjoy myself.

Being interviewed is great because it forces you to:

  • Be clear on who you are and what you do
  • Speak well
  • Be confident
  • Step outside of your comfort zone
  • Think on your feet

Apart of from being a great vehicle to hone your communication skills, this has a real SEO (search engine optimisation) benefit associated with it also. Typically Google very much loves websites that are related to podcasts. The reason being is they combine different modalities of content including:

  • Audio
  • Text transcriptions of the interview (sometimes thousands of words)
  • Images
  • Video

Because these pages are so content rich they rank really well in the Google search results.

Usually the hosted podcast page will provide a backlink to your site giving us a nice little SEO boost (links are still very important in the world of SEO).

My advice. Open yourself to podcast interview requests. Have some fun. Create real value for a new audience and get some nice exposure to a different audience along the way.
